Part of the ongoing decommissioning of the reactor involves the disturbance of licensable asbestos insulation around the pressure vessel.
Although remote techniques had been developed and tested to remove this metal insulated with asbestos, the client has to comply with The Asbestos (Licensing) Regulations 1983 (as amended).
My Solution
Wayne Bagnall Ltd was called in to advise on the best way forward to tackle this element of the work.
Following an initial visit, a meeting was held with Mr J Skilling the Head of the HSE Asbestos Licensing Unit and a satisfactory solution was resolved.
The Result
BNFL now have a way forward to complete the complex task of decommissioning the reactor without breaching the Asbestos Licensing Regulations.
My/Our Comments
